Eastern Promise Weekend at Pontins - 22-24th February 2002

In association with Club Cubana and accompanying their Salsa Passion event at Pontins, Brean Sands from February 22-24th 2002 is the first ever, Eastern Promise: a weekend of Arab Dance Workshops and performance from Jacqueline Jamal, Algerian dancer, Amel Tafsout and popular teacher, Jill Osborne. Together they will cover a range of Egyptian and North African dance styles and will be joined by drummers Saleh Dawson Miller and Bristol's Chas Whitaker. FAQ's
If you already have a flier, the following few points may make a first visit easier to understand and more enjoyable:

  • the great prices include ALL accommodation and events (including Workshops) on a Self-Catering basis

  • accomodation is based on 2 or 4 sharing (so get together with friend(s) before booking). You and your room-mate(s) can select from one of 3 standards of room according to price level

  • there will be 8 hours of dedicated Arab Workshops per day (Sat & Sun) and 5 hours of these per day will be either with Jacqui Jamal or Amel Tafsout

  • this includes Drumming Workshops

  • why not bring partners and friends - there are workshops at every level and you also have access to the many hours of Salsa and Workshops over the entire weekend

  • unless selecting 'Club' accommodation, you need your own towels

  • there will be a chance to perform, so bring party gear and CD if you want to. Amel, Jill and Jacqui will also be performing

  • starts 8pm Fri and ends 6pm Sun (see programme)

  • the Salsa goes on late so this is a very pleasent and friendly event for the young at heart of any age

Programme Details
Friday Night is Shopping Night; get to know us and what's happening and when;
Henna Tattoos; Arab Sounds; Get your Name Down to Perform on Saturday Night; Ask Questions; hang out; then off to bed or even better still, Salsa the night away.

Saturday and Sunday Daytime: Wakeup with a swim then join the fun with; Algerian Rai; Egyptian Stick; Partner and Group Dancing; Egyptian Technique and Drumming - both at levels of Beginner, General and Advanced; Salsa; Tai Chi; Video link to your rooms; Private Lessons (Optional extra)

Saturday Night: perform or enjoy a drink whilst others entertain you; see the teachers perform and boogie-on-down to Arab sounds before Salsa-ing the night away or sipping your cocoa.

Arab Workshops finish Sunday 6pm but you can still curl up in your room with the video link or enjoy a late night of Salsa if you want to party on.
